Church History

The Bethel Outreach Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ (C.O.O.L.J.C.) is blessed and proud to have a rich heritage of sound believers and laborers in Christ.  The church in its’ infancy was started with Minister Dwayne Mickens, his family, and several visitors in January 1991. The growing congregation was able to secure the Town-n-Country Recreational Center for worship services.  This was just the beginning of many victories and lessons in the Lord.

In 1994, Bethel Outreach moved into a 3000-square-square-foot building. The building was leased with a five-year lease-option on the property. Although the property was not in prime condition, the building was affordable and offered much needed space. The brothers of the church worked hard to refurbish portions of the building. The hand of the Lord blessed them in their endeavor to make the property presentable for worship and praise.

In 1996, the building’s owner decided to sell the building to the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority as part of the Drew Park property Acquisition/ Relocation Program. Elder Mickens agreed to end their five-year lease and search for a new location.  It was on North Armenia that a new location was found by the relocation specialist, Ms Catherine Sugg. She was a true partner and aid in our time of struggle.

The Lord allowed the Bethel Outreach family to remain on North Armenia for a short season.  However, the cost for maintaining the property proved to be to overwhelming for the small congregation.  Elder Mickens looked to the Lord for direction and the Lord opened up a door in the Town-n-Country neighborhood again. In 1998, the Children’s Nest Child Care facility located on Jackson Springs Road opened its’ doors to Elder Mickens and the Bethel Outreach COOLJC family. It is here that the ministry began to flourish again.

In 2002, we moved into our current location at 7345 Jackson Springs Road., Suite 2 .  Today, you can find Elder Dwayne Mickens, his family, and the Bethel Outreach COOLJC parishioners diligently working together to complete the task that God has assigned unto their hands. It is our desire to please God, while ministering to the needs of his people in our community.
